The Value of Using AdSense with Your Website

Can AdSense make me money?

The answer here is yes! In order to do so, you should have a good idea for a website and apply some effort at making it useful. The majority of AdSense enabled sites will make a reasonable amount of income, some will make a great deal, others will make enough for lunch money. The outcome mostly rests with the amount of traffic you can generate and the value of the content you present.

Three important things to know about AdSense!

If you have a website and you aren't using this program you are losing income! AdSense places targeted advertisements on your website and pays you when visitors click on these ads. The three most important things to know about AdSense is first, it places "contexually sensitive" ads on your site. This means that the ads that are seen on your site are related directly to the content of each page. Second, Google pays you to use AdSense. The third important thing is that AdSense costs you nothing to use.

I have a blog, can I use AdSense?

Google AdSense advertising is very common on sites with frequently changing content, like blogs. Google's service is free to use, easy to setup, and presents advertising based on the keywords and phrases Google finds in your page content. If you write a post about dog training, you might get Google AdSense ads for dog grooming supplies and trainers outlets. These ads appear contextually on a page-by-page basis, so every page on your blog has its own supply of topic-appropriate ads. The ads appear automatically on your pages based on the content of your blog after you add the code to your templates.

I don't have a website yet, how can I get in on the AdSense money maker?

Another common way AdSense can be used is with informational websites, such as historical, fan based or enthusiast sites (think car clubs, collector information, etc.). People search Google for such infomation all the time and when they find your informational website, AdSense is there to monetize the site. This is an easy way to generate lots of income with little maintenance. The sites don't need to change often but the interest will remain for many years to come. Since the cost to host a website is very low, owning multiple informational websites can lead to significant income. Again, content is very important, so doing careful research when setting up this type of site is important. Adding a blog and a forum can also increase the number of visitors and traffic.

What other ways can AdSense make me money?

Sites that contain useful features, like amortization calculators, games and other useful functions are great ways to generate traffic and along with it, AdSense income. These type of sites have essentially static content but can be so useful that people return time and time again to use them. A great effect here is that people write about your useful site on their blogs, add them as links on their own sites and mention them to their friends and business associates, so your ranking in Google increases and your site becomes ever more popular. While this type of site does take more imagination and skill to setup, they can provide significant income with very little maintanence.

Ok, I'm sold. How do I sign up for AdSense and how can I start using it?

The AdSense program takes a little effort to sign up for it, but it pays real money and is well worth the effort. When signing up, you'll fill out a web based form with name, address, city, state, country and other information. You will also have to submit some personal information so Google can report your income properly to the tax authorities.

Google also needs to take a look at your website, to make sure your site doesn't violate their terms as they take their advertising programs seriously. Essentially, if your website doesn't contain illegal, pornographic or drug related content, you should pass this test. This approval process may take a day or two, possibly up to a week but once approved you are ready to start placing ads on your site.
