New Version of Tiger Based ZCTA Zip Code Boundary Maps and Polygons

A new version of the ZCTA based Zip code map was released today. This one is based on the Tiger/Line 2006FE database which was released on 12/12/2006. In addition, the online program is now using a more up to date version of the search database that will result in fewer misses on zip codes. See ZCTA Boundary Maps to give it a test drive.

Also available today for license is a new version of the database, same price as the old one at $1000. See Sales Data for more information on products and pricing.

Douglas-Peucker Algorithm in Perl

The Douglas-Peucker line simplification algorithm has been around for more than 25 years, yet is still is the best method of polygon and line simplification available.

We are proud to announce the release of Open Source code for this routine written in Perl. This has been done before, but not a port that doesn't require any additional modules. This code should run on just about any version of Perl without modification.

See Douglas-Peucker for the code and a sample driver program.
